eBook Reader Guide

What Do I Need to Read an eBook?

To read an eBook, all you need is some free eBook reader software. There are two major formats, Microsoft Reader and Adobe Reader. Microsoft Reader allows you to read ebooks in the .lit file format, Adobe Reader allows you to read Adobe eBooks and .pdf files. The software must be installed and activated on the computer or handheld device to which you download your e-book in order to read it. It's fast and easy. You can download the reader software here:

Getting the Most from Your eBooks

To enjoy all the advantages of eBooks, you should consider buying a portable electronic device. There are dozens of portable computers to chose from - everything ranging from a pocket-sized handheld or PDA (personal digital assistant), to a slick laptop or tablet-style machine. There are devices for every budget, and best of all, portable computing devices allow you do to all kinds of other things - like send and receive email on the go, track appointments and dates or even play games. Devices which use the Pocket PC operating system can run both Adobe Reader and Microsoft Reader, giving you the widest choice of eBook titles. Literati Library eBooks are formatted with larger type, to make them easier to read, even on devices with smaller screens, giving you the widest choice of devices.

Worried about missing the traditional book experience? Don't be: Most handhelds and PDAs have the same heft and feel as a standard paperback. Technology advances mean that screens are bigger, have better viewing angles and crystal-clear, easy-on-the-eyes text display. Unless you think having the pages fall out of a paperback is a vital part of the experience, of course.

After all, haven't you been looking for an excuse to buy one of these great gadgets anyway? Think of the money you’ll save in book purchases! Think of the trees you’ll save from the axe! Think how cool you’ll look at the beach - while everyone else is struggling with the overweight and hard-to-handle summer bestseller, you’ll have it in the palm of your hand, leaving the other hand free for a drink!

Can I print or copy my eBooks?

As a publisher, we set the permissions in our Adobe eBooks to allow you to print and copy around 10 percent of any one book for our new titles, and many of the titles in our Literati Library Classics series may be printed in full for your own use. Not all publishers give you these permissions in their eBooks. The Microsoft Reader versions of our titles can not be printed.

What are the copyright laws for eBooks

In nearly all countries, the same as for printed books. Copyright law in most countries permits you to make a copy of up to 10 percent of a work, subject to fair use provisions, for academic purposes, literary critiques, etc. If in doubt, or if you need longer extracts for an academic project, please feel free to ask us.
