Literati Library: eBook Publishing - Literature anywhere. Knowledge everywhere.

eBook Publishing and Literati Library

Literati Library is an eBook publisher. This means we publish fiction and nonfiction titles in eBook format; which are sold through Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and other retailers. We promote our own titles, select manuscript to publish, and pay our authors royalties, and reinvest income into developing new literary talent.

What is an eBook?

An eBook, or electronic book, is a digital text file that you can read on a desktop computer, a laptop, or a handheld device like a Tablet-style PC or PDA (personal digital assistant).

Do I Need Special Software to Read EBooks?

Yes, but its free! You probably already have at least one of the software programs already on your desktop, laptop or PDA - Adobe Reader or Microsoft Reader - but even if you don’t, the programs are free. You can get them here:

For more information, see our eBook Readers guide.

Why Do You Publish eBooks and not Paper Books?

We believe eBooks have many advantages over traditional paper books:

  • Cost effective - no warehouses, no overstocking, and no freight, means eBooks are cheaper to distribute and (should be!) cheaper to buy.
  • Environmentally friendly - no need to chop down trees or truck books around.
  • No shipping delays - you can buy an eBook from anywhere in the world and have it within minutes.
  • Search for text - use a search tool to find passages or quotes instantly - no more guesswork from memory.
  • Linking - you can have links within an eBook, making cross-referencing and indexing fast and easy. You can also link an eBook to one or more websites for further information.
  • Less space - you can fit dozens or even hundreds of eBooks on a single computing device, and store even more using memory sticks, or your hard disk.
  • More choice - efficient production methods allow us to publish a wider range of titles.
  • Portable - you can walk around with an entire library in your pocket or backpack.
  • Private - you choose whether you tell others what you are reading, so you can acquire new job and life skills without interference.
  • Flexible - eBooks can be illustrated in full colour, and even (depending upon the format) include sound and moving pictures, for a truly multimedia experience.

So Why Hasn’t Everyone Switched to EBooks Already?

There are a few reasons. One is probably just poor marketing - few have made a real effort to sell eBooks, and more importantly PDAs as versatile, portable readers, properly. Early on, efforts were wasted trying to sell proprietary eBooks and readers that weren't compatible with each other. Another is the fact that many publishers haven't taken full advantage of the format, and offered the features we list above.

Price is probably the biggest factor however: Most eBooks are still priced like paperbacks, so there’s not been an incentive to switch. Until recently, handheld devices have been expensive. But these prices have fallen, and display quality has improved, so now readers can download eBooks onto book-sized devices and go flop in a beach chair or curl up in bed instead of being restricted to reading at their desks.

Are You a Vanity Press, or Self-Publishing Company?

No. We are a traditional publishing house, so we only publish titles we select believing them to be of good quality and have sales potential. We pay our authors royalties; we do not charge authors any fees.

Are You Accepting Manuscript Submissions?

Yes. Please see our Writers' Guidelines for further information on what we’re looking for and what we offer.

Does Literati Library make eBooks for other publishers?

Yes. We provide a complete outsourcing solution to print publishers wishing to release their titles as eBooks.

Who Runs This Place?

Literati Library is an editorially independent and private publishing house headquartered in Chatham-Kent, Canada, founded by Terence Johnson.

Literati Library uses the services of other companies in the Tiger Ventures family, including Scribendi for editing, and proofreading. However, we do not refer our authors to any editorial service, nor require authors to pay for one. Authors get royalties; we do not charge our authors any fees. If you choose to have your manuscript edited before submission, it does improve your chances of acceptance by any publisher, but any further work once a manuscript is accepted is on us.
